9 things might shock Italy first-time visitors.


Crossing red light, turning late on a date, children are allowed to make noise and play around in restaurants,... are things that might shock tourists who visit Italia for the first time.



1.The Choral of Noise


A day in Italy is the choral of noise from crowds of people gathering to talk, sing, play or even shout at each other or the noise of honk on the street.

2.Complicated Meal



A traditional meal of the Italian normal has at least three dishes : an appetizer including salami or salad; a first dish including gnocchi, risotto or spagetti; a main dish is meat with/without vegetable side dish and some dessert dishes like tiramisu, panna cotta, gelato and a drink. Eating spagetti without meat or side dish is considered weird in Italy.

3.Using Hand Gestures

Watching when the Italian talking with each other and expressing their feeling by hand gestures is probably the most interesting ever. This language gesture was inherited from the Greece when they came to the South of Italy and dominated Naples.

4.Family Relationship


The Italian has been famous with their close family relationship. They love their children and take well care of their parents. They always live with their parents until they get married. Children are allowed to do whatever they want even in public. Even in the restaurants, they can run and play, throw stuffs around without being complained. Strict regulations on the generation don’t exist in the Italian culture.

5.Chaotic Traffic


The Italian are said to be the worst drivers in Europe. When renting car in Italy, make sure that you can manage to drive with crazy drivers here. They cross the red light very often. Therefore, if you decide to drive in Italy, keep in mind “Always look straight ahead and leave everybody else behind”, because this is how they survive on the road.

6.Lack of Personal Space


The Italian lack of personal space or you might say that they don’t have any personal space at all. They consider sitting closely or holding other people hands while talking is a polite thing to do. Public displays of affection is also totally acceptable. On public transportations, they don’t mind if you sit right next to them and they might sit so close to you that you can even hear their breath.

7.Shops Are Closed in the Noon


Shops and stores in Italy might be closed from 12.30AM to 3.30PM to come home preparing for the afternoon, especially in the countryside. In big cities, there are still restaurants serve lunch for people who don’t have time to come home cooking.

8.The Italian-style Coffe


Calling Bar but they don’t have alcohol. You come in the bar, find cassa counter, queue and wait to order. Then you will see many people drinking coffee while standing instead of sitting.

9.Slow Living


The Italian do everything very slowly, their dinner can be prolonged to 3 hours and it’s very hard to find fast-food restaurants unless you are in city tourism. They also have a habit of not turning up on time, turning up late on a date or meeting is such a normal thing.
